Why is There No Character?

What is Character?
Some people don't understand the difference between character and personality.  I have to laugh because some of the people who calim to train people in character have no idea.  Most people who get into trianing others to improve their character are actually trianng people to change their personality.  Personality is what makes you unique. It is your likes and dislikes, mannerisms, social skills, etc.  It has little to do with character.  Character is behavior. How you behave. It is your beliefs and thought, core values. For example, everyone agrees we should not murder or steal from eachother. That's character.  Friendly, nice, outgoing, those are personality traits.
Some people believe that you are friendlier, nicer, or more outgoing then you are a sure success.  Well, in a way this is true.  If you are friendly just so you can con someone out of their money, you are nothing more than a 'nice' theif.  So we really need to pay closer attention to the character others display.  we all need to become somewhat of a people watcher.  You can learn alot from watching how others interact with others.
Character is so important in business today.  People can sell all day long, but if they are pushy, won,t take no for answer, harrassing, or spammy they will destroy themselves and their business's reputation.  That business who believes in hiring aggressive sales people who believe in the 'hard sell' are lying to themselves.  They may make millions working that way, but not for long.  People get tired and angry when treated this way.  Have you ever wandered why your customer service reps are stressed out because of all the foul language and disrespect coming from the customer?  It,s because you have not trained your sales force to have positive moral character,  if you have a high turn over in your customer service reps, this is most likely the problem.
There are ways to improve employee retention, customer referrals, and repeat business.  But you will have to listen to the show to find out. I will be posting more about this subject later as well so stay tuned.
